Habitat 67 presents at OCPM
A committee of residents has presented, on behalf of the Habitat 67 and Tropiques Nord, the brief entitled La Cité du Havre, a neglected gem, at theOffice de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM, part of the Bridge-Bonaventure consultation, of which the Cité-du-Havre Havre is a part.
La Cité du Havre, a neglected gem La Cité-du-Havre is a true gem of Montreal. It offers unique views of the river, the city and the port, is home to exceptional modern heritage buildings and parks that are the only green spaces in the entire Bridge-Bonaventure area.
In this brief, we wish to recall the unique role of the Cité-du-Havre as a witness and site of the modern cultural and social history of Montréal, Québec and Canada, and to give special attention to its architectural and natural heritage, which constitutes a major tourist attraction and an exceptional contribution to the quality of life in Montréal.
In this presentation, we emphasize as residents the specificity of the Cité-du-Havre, its needs, and the solutions we propose to give it back its lost lustre.
As residents concerned about the future of our living environment, our recommendations are to :
- Open up the Cité du Havre and facilitate automobile, bicycle and pedestrian traffic
- Enhance green spaces
- Re-enhance the built heritage
- Maintain institutional properties
